Caledonian cosplay

The word ‘cosplay’ generally conjures images of young anime or game lovers decked out in a myriad of bizarre and colourful costumes; however for those with interests far away from such fantasyland folly, there are still options to don an elaborate costume now and again to briefly escape the confines of the real world.

Take the Japan Scottish Highland Games for example (warning, link contains a brief burst of bagpipe music) – an event best known for burly blokes tossing their cabers, yet at the same time, for fans of all things Scottish, it offers the perfect opportunity for a spot of cultural costume play. The young fella pictured below even going to the trouble of perfecting his paunch to do the role real justice.

It’s amazing that Kim Jong Il finds time to throw a caber or two, while he is busy testing nukes. May be that’s his secret weapon – he has nuclear cabers capable of reaching the West Coast of the US. He trains a crack team of tartan-wearing DPRK troops. My God, we really are in trouble is one of those cabers should land on these shores!!!

That’s one set of up-skirts I’m not looking forward to seeing!

Hello! I just discovered your blog and I’m still laughing. I can’t imagine seeing this in person and agree, I’d be scared!

I don’t care too much for bagpipes but jazz, like the music recorded here.
