Long abandoned holiday home

by Lee on 10/28/2009

When heading out to visit a haikyo/abandoned building, the biggest worries (for me at least) are whether it’ll still be there, and even if it is, whether we’ll be able to find it. So, with this in mind, coming across a long left lodging along the way is a real bonus, especially as it possibly hasn’t been pictured before, or at the very least posted in a publication.

And whilst this particular find wasn’t as filled with furniture and pointers to the past like some places, despite the gloriously green if overgrown front garden,

it still rather gloomily gave hints about possible fun,

obvious failings,

Japanese abandoned building

and even the future.

Nicely done. The second photo in particular has a genuine feeling of sadness and loss.

Thanks! Glad to hear I managed to capture some of the house’s atmosphere.

I like the dining room with the tall windows. That would have been a cool room in its prime.

Lee, I am having an exhibition of my Japan haikyo photography in Florida on November 13th. Come and check it out if you happen to find yourself in the neighborhood!

Cheers Jason. Yeah, it was quite an interesting little find. Strange thing was, despite it being an unusually sunny and warm October day, that living/dining room was incredibly cold. The difference in temperature when we stepped outside was unbelievable.

Oh, and if I happen to be passing Florida next month, I’ll be sure to pop in!

Lee, I’ve been up to my neck on a project, haven’t been able to get back to our email. However I still catch every update to the site, it makes me happy. The thing I’m thinking now is how much I could save on room and board if instead you handed off a list of places to squat at… though that sounds to have the makings for a cheep US slash horror movie. :/

No worries Taylor. As for your trip, yes, you’d save a fortune. And provided you weren’t too fussy about rat dropping or the frankly woeful facilities, you’d have a ball!

Very cool site by the way. Especially so when combined with an ambient soundtrack.

I can only think of how creepy it would be to try to spend the night in one of these places. Gives me jitters just thinking about it.

That’s quite a haikyo find when it’s still in a condition like that with the tables and chairs and intact windows. Cool.
