In Shibuya, where feisty is a fairly good word to describe the fashion, and also the way some folk show their feelings, it makes a nice change, as well as quite a contrast, to see togs of a much more traditional nature.

There's also the option of following Tokyo Times by full feed RSS, and now Twitter too.

Would i be correct in saying thats a Kimono or a Yukata ?? Eitherway is beautiful
I think it should be a kimono?
Since yutaka is mostly wearer during summer only. Or at some onsen maybe?
Sorry it’s neither, it’s actually a Hakama. A traditional item of clothing that, in this style at least, is only worn for graduation ceremonies. Well, at least I think it is.
Beautiful indeed.
Excellent photo Lee, I love the balance in the picture, along with the receding dark colours in the image (Far right is close purple, central is farther away darker purple, and far left is kinda black distant imagery)
Thanks Tyler! It came out better than I expected as I came round the corner and she was there, giving me one brief chance to get the picture.
Classy! What kind of camera do you use and how do you get the background to blur ? (Sorry, I’m a photography noob)
Thanks Rob. I have a Nikon D300, and for this shot I used the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4, set at f/2. A better explanation than I could ever manage of what those numbers mean is detailed here. Hope it helps.
So beautiful. You really never know what you’re going to find, eh?
Damn, Japanese presents come in such pretty wrapping.
I like the feets!

Indeed, it looks like this beautiful young woman is dressed for her college graduation ceremony.
I hope I can see some in my neck of the woods. Why must it be so cute T_T
If the photo was taken on the day that the post was made (March 15th) then the reason that there were a few hakama around was because some or most universities had their graduation ceremony on that day.
Or if the photo wasn’t taken on March 15th then I’m just a stinkin’ liar hehe.
