There are plenty of photographs on this site of people playing music in parks, and a big part of why I like taking them is the subject’s obvious contentment: each and every one happily lost in their music, in a lovely location.
But as well as that, it’s also what they provide — which is a soundtrack of sorts. And this fella, playing his flute towards the end of the day, in a quiet area of the park, provided the perfect accompaniment.

This is a positive consequence of the small houses in Japan. I like seeing an hearing this dedication as much as you, whenever I’m in Japan. It seems that Japanese do not care to be heard and seen while practicing, compared to the dutch (my point of reference), even when the latter claim to be much more individualistic and independent.

Also, I believe Dutch people are less tolerant than Japanese people and would probably complain about the ‘noise’ when somebody dediced to practise their instrument in a public area.
