Considering the amount of cake and sweets that many Japanese seem to consume, the country really should be adding obesity issues to its long list of concerns — but it’s not. Far from it in fact. Meaning that on the whole, people do indeed have their cake and eat it too.
And, if it’s all as wonderfully fresh as this, then why not?

some Japanese need obesity, like sumo players.
True, but they are very much the exception.
Is it a Taiyaki in the picture?
Most Japanese have sweet tooth especially the ladies.
I can see many bakery, pastries shops in most places and even convenience shops, supermarket have wide range of sweet attractive snacks.
Yes, I think so.
I know, it’s sometimes hard to find stuff in bakeries that isn’t sweet!
This is a actually a controversy! How sweet should anko be?
Our aunty made it so sweet it was inedible. but the kids loved it!
Just sweet enough!
After 30 plus years of eating the stuff (often just to be polite) I’ve finally come to love anko, which years ago I mistakenly called something else more than once in a public conversation within earshot of a number of women. The Japanese can be so polite.
It’s something I’ve always liked. Not something I crave or actively seek out mind you, but I do enjoy eating it now and again.
ahh! is this at asakusa? i think i saw the same man making ningyo yaki!
