Tokyo isn’t all about fashion and putting on appearances — sometimes it’s simply just a case of some booze and getting by.

Tokyo isn’t all about fashion and putting on appearances — sometimes it’s simply just a case of some booze and getting by.

Tokyo Times is owned and run by me, Lee Chapman, a long-term resident of Tokyo who arrived in 1998 for ‘a year or two’, and, for a myriad of reasons, stayed put.
Japan means many things to many people, but Tokyo Times is how I see it. The places. The people. The day-to-day situations. All of it shot using a Leica, a Nikon and a selection of lenses.
My photographs have appeared in the Guardian and Japan Times, plus numerous magazines and books. Should you wish to use any, or simply ask a question, you can get in touch with me here.

Life’s basic essentials.

Japan cracking down so hard on drugs while the Japanese government has the monopoly on tobacco and pushing nicotine addictions always makes me smile.Still, I would buy the beer so I cannot say anything.
Yeah, the hypocrisy is staggering. It really is no wonder that smoking is far more accepted in Japan.
Most of Japanese love beer and cigarettes! They always smoke and drink their beer before having their meal and after meal.
Interesting !!
Standing between the Poster/message and the Cigarettes vending machine, the man really chose a nice place to drink his beer.
They do, although the person in the photo is a woman!

That’s ok. A very easy mistake to make.
Post-Modern Marlboro Man?
Haha! That would be something. A bold new move for tough times.
